With all the indulgent pleasures of the year, a chance to give a little back.
I wouldn’t have included it here, but it was one of the 50 I set myself. The truth is, whatever I have given it is always less than I could and is less than is needed. I have shelter and warmth and safety. I have friendship and health. Of things material, I have more than enough.
My first thought was to give something to each of five public places I’ve had the privilege of visiting over the years for free. . .art galleries, libraries, national parks.
In the end, the year brought its own priorities and concerns and although I did include a local gallery, the other donations became inextricably bound up in the year I experienced and the one experienced in the wider world.
